FIRST VISIT COMENIUS

As we told you last week we had a pleasant visit to the College Antonio Gala. The visit recieves teachers from other centres in Europe particularly Latvia, Portugal, Norway, Cyprus and Bulgaria; all members of the Comenius Project.

At school we expectantly awaited the arrival of the teachers. They had a warm welcome to the city of Dos Hermanas, greeted by the Director, Head Teachers of primary and secondary, the secretary, President of the Cooperative, representatives of the AMPA and one teacher for every cycle. A presentation followed where the main ideas were presented highlighting some of the new goals of the project and of course welcoming the Teachers to the city.

The Comenius members spent a few days visiting our school facilities, departments, classrooms, etc.. New teachers to the project organized activities in some classes, demonstrating the teaching of some concepts specific to the project, including integration and equality in education through physical activity, play and sport. At the same time they saw the development of several classes of Physical Education in collaboration with members of ANIDI (Nazarene Association for the integration of people with intellectual disabilities). All this was presented in English while promoting learning and the inclusion of other languages in our classes. We also had the pleasure of promoting a little of our culture through a Flamenco Exhibition performed by primary and secondary students, which pleased our visitors a lot as some hadn’t heard or seen any flamenco or Sevillanas before.

Another activity that was included within the visit was a visit to the Alcázar and the Cathedral of Seville, where everybody took part in a fact finding mission of the local area. Our visitors learned a lot about many aspects of the city centre that many would not have known. Also we visited the city of Cádiz and for some it was a very different landscape from their own they thought was quite attractive, for example, La Caleta and el barrio La Viña ...

It was a hectic time during the Comenius visit for the teachers at Antonio Gala but nevertheless all the effort was worth it. The participation of everybody has been very important and well appreciated. So: Thank you. It only remains to tell you that more news will follow about forthcoming trips and projects with the Comenius Project.
